Shaun White Snowboarding

Unlike previous attempts such as Amped 3 or the SSX Tricky to recreate the thrill of snowboarding which tuned into the sub culture and "zanyness' of the sport, Shaun White attempts a more mature approach whilst having the odd passing resemblance to the more outlandish take on snowboarding.

This game rewards patience and exploration, it has an initial emphasis on finding a collecting coins which gradually provide outlandish powers evolving the game away from its more humble sensible start. This will not be to everyones liking - as Banjo has taking cart racing and turned it into a platformer, so Shaun White has taken snowboarding and done the same.

It also has an excellent online 'Burnout Paradise' approach to multiplayer which as with most of the game gets better the more you put into it. Get a group of mates online and you can have a blast. The online community at time of writing seem to reflect the more adult approach and itys refreshing to go online and not have a wave… more »

So if your a gamer who liked skate, or amped 3 and is happy to chat online and share tips etc with other snowboading fans then this is well worth an investment.

If however you like snowboarding games that let you jump miles high, have fireworks in the sky as you perform impossible moves and use the term Rad, Stoked or wacky every few seconds then give this a miss.

An excellent if short soundtrack rounds off a game that will probably be overlooked by those craving an instant hit. But dig a littler deeper and you wont be dissapointed. Once the thrilll of killing Locust has worn off I know this will have the longevity to stay on my hard drive for many months.

I don't see how anyone could enjoy this game. They used the physics engine from Assasins Creed to make this game, and whoever decided that was a good idea must have had something wrong with them. It just doesn't work, you have to fight with the controls to make them work, not that you have much control. It feels so jerky and unresponsive, you are rarely going in the direction you want to.

The game gives you no help at the start, no tutorial, nothing at all. You have to work out the controls yourself, but that isn't hard, but it has a strange layout (right trigger to jump?). The game doesn't seem to have any structure to it at all. There is some mention of doing something with Shaun himself at the beginning but after the intro movie nothing more seems to be said of it. It seems that you have to go around collecting these 3 coin things that are scattered around the mountain, I did that and nothing happened. The achievements on this game are rediculous as well, I've played the game for a good few hours, so wanting for it to get better, but it never happened. In all this time I have never got a single achievement. When I look through the list of the requirements for them they were either things like "complete every of this type of challenge" or the descriptions were vauge and made no sense, such as "gain respect on this mountain".

Overall it just doesn't entertain and leaves you feeling like you have wasted your time and money, which you have. If you want a decent snowboarding game on the 360 the only thing that's really out is Amped 3. It's old but it's still loads of fun.
